Where to find art for your Samsung Frame TV

Your new Samsung Frame TV is looking swish on your wall, but you’re craving a change from the preloaded art. What are your options?

This article will cover the best ways to get art for your Frame TV, including finding free TV art, and making your own!

My advice is that it’s not always necessary to pay for TV art, but if spending a few dollars on custom designed artwork is something you’re in a position to do, you might find you prefer the possibilities that open up.

Does the Frame TV come with free art?

Yes! If you haven’t bought the TV yet and are doing a bit of research, there is indeed a small selection of classic art pre-loaded onto the Frame TV. For many people this is great for getting started, but there soon comes a craving to expand this collection and explore more art styles!

How much does the Samsung Art Store subscription cost?

Samsung also conveniently has an Art Store subscription which gives you easy access to a range of artworks from their curated collection, costing $5.99 USD per month, discounted if paid annually. There could also be the opportunity to purchase individual artworks outright, though it appears this might be discontinued.

If you’re wondering whether the Samsung Art Store is right for you, you could try signing up for a month to see whether the range of art suits your tastes and matches your home decor.

How do I find free art for my Frame TV?

Let’s start with finding free TV art, as that’s probably your first instinct, and I don’t blame you! Everyone loves a freebie (especially in these economic times!) and when it comes to art there certainly are many sources of free artworks for you to download.

Below I will take you through 3 of the best ways to get free art on your Frame TV:

  • Public domain
  • Creative Commons
  • Your own photos

For many of these sources, please note that images may not be sized to fit your Frame TV. You might need to use an image editing tool to resize them to 3840 x 2160 pixels for a perfect fit.

Public domain art

What is public domain art?

Public domain art is art that anyone can use, share, or modify without permission or payment. It includes artworks that have no copyright protection, either because they have expired, been surrendered, or been dedicated to the public domain by their creators.

Public domain art can be a valuable source of inspiration and creativity for artists, designers, educators, and researchers. It’s pretty awesome really!

Where can I download public domain art?

You can find millions of public domain images online, from museums, archives and other sources. For paintings, you might like to browse these open access sources:

Creative Commons

You might also hear the term ‘creative commons’ used to describe works that can be shared and distributed for free, under certain conditions. There are different types of Creative Commons licences which I won’t go into here, but various sites contain images under these licences, or similar licences of their own.

You might like to browse these sources of free images, particularly if you're interested in photography:

Check their websites for specific licencing information, as not all photos are public domain or Creative Commons.

You might hear ‘public domain’ and ‘Creative Commons 0 (CC0)’ used interchangeably. These are images you can use for free without any conditions or restrictions.

Can I upload my own photos?

If you’re thinking that your TV would be the perfect place to display your family photos or your kids’ art, the good news is you can do that!

First resize your photo to 3840 x 2160 pixels. You can use any app to do this, but my favourite is Canva.

With your resized image ready, you can just follow these instructions to get the pictures on your TV.

Where can I get more choices of TV art?

If you’ve been on Instagram, you might have seen drop dead gorgeous interiors, some with a TV-sized painting in their living room or bedroom. This could be another type of TV, but very often it is a Samsung Frame TV, and the owner has chosen the absolute perfect art to complement their home decor. How did they do that?!

Etsy

They have a secret source of artworks. Well, not so secret if you do a search for “frame tv art” in a search engine you’ll find many of the results in the shopping section come from Etsy.

I have a shop on Etsy in addition to this website, and it’s how I got my start in the business of creating and remastering art for the Frame TV.

When you’re on Etsy, I recommend just doing a search for 'frame tv art' rather than navigating through the menus. Most sellers put their art under Prints > Digital Prints, but it’s easier to search! If you can get more specific about what you’re looking for, say 'floral frame tv art', 'halloween frame tv art' or 'blue frame tv art' this will narrow it down much more quickly for you.

On Etsy you’ll find art for every special occasion, from New Years to Christmas and everything in between, and you can even get personalised art!

Specialised art shops

There aren’t too many that I could find, but there are a few standalone shops that sell Frame TV art, usually in combination with other digital products such as wall art prints. Prices can be a little higher than Etsy.

The website you’re on now is my own shop which at the time of writing fully specialises in art for the Frame TV. I do hope you have a look around while you’re here!
